Mark Klett to Kenda North
Dear Kenda, Well we're settled in finally, though there seems like so much to do. Ellen's [Manchester] working even harder than in Breck[enridge]. I'm teaching and doing a little of my own work while also finishing up some survey stuff. Went to Yellowstone and had a great time. JoAnn [Verburg] says you put in some time on the BIG camera. Good! Hope everything's OK in Colo—I miss it. Best to all. Love Mark

Dave Freund to Ellen Manchester
Hi Ellen—This [illegible] as a follow up letter, making sure you got my answer to yours—is the show still cooking? I do need those questions answered if it is. How're you doing & what plans for summer? I find I'm spending much time thinking about it—got a NY Council for the Arts grant $4,000 [stars all around]—so I think I'll be a gypsy and much anticipating it—a bona fide vacation! Calm enough here—given that it's NYC—Wanted to go for a drive today but was unable to face the hassle of leaving town—no wonder people are born to die in their neighborhoods. & hey, is there any encouragement I could give you to entice you to send my clothes, please? love, Dave
Darryl Curran to Ellen Manchester and Cheri Hiser
Ellen, I'll send my pictures about the 1st. D.J.C.
Dave Freund to Ellen Manchester
Dear Ellen—Very good to get your card(s) & hear the show looks good—really wish I could see it. (By implication, Gary's [Metz?] prints showed up, right?) The clothes, my god, thanks for not sending them for $22! Can't you just put them in a box & mail 'em last class, insured? Shouldn't be more than a few $—& when it comes I'll mail you a check for the postage. I'll surely be out sometime this summer, somehow. How long you gonna be there? Could you send me a summer catalog? School's out next week, & free play for the summer‚ hardly know where to strike first. But I'll manage. See yo. Love, Dave [front of card] Hi, Bonnie [Lambert] !!!
Gwen Widmer and Reed Estabrook to Ellen Manchester
Dear Ellen, The BLIMP is I N C R E D I B L E. It arrived just as we were leaving for Layfayette Ind (Purdue) where Reed was giving a lecture on K I T C H ! Everyone was really impressed that we had a friend who would send a chocolate blimp! Can you get more? Maybe we'll try & get some by writing directly to the co. How long will you be in Aspen? We'd like to go west while you're still there but may have to wait til Aug. When you go East be sure & stop at least overnight—longer if you can. The photo paper is off & a very long story. Love, Reed, Gwen, Lunch, Meatball, Diesel & Radio.

Dear Ellen—Just passed thru Freedom—thought this card was just the ticket. Chicago's next, then the coast—then, at last, Aspen late July-early August. You gonna be around? Just what are you going to be up to? I assume the show's down—don't know if you're planning to mail the prints, but if so, spare yourself & I'll pick them up when I get there. And I'll also pick up the clothes (just in case anyone was off to mail them today). I understand Alex [?] is there nowadays. Give him my best & tell him I'll pick up the stuff he put in his trailer for me—if he won't be there, please ask him to leave instructions for me, will you. Thanks very much, Ellen. See you soon—maybe have a choc. sundae. Love, Dave PS—if you write me, do it c/o [?] Tanner [address redacted]
Alan and Andrea Klotz to Ellen Manchester
Hello, I am sorry to say that barring sudden change a visit to Aspen will not be possible (flat broke) But we are expecting you to stay with us while you find a place to live. It was a lovely summer and the West has properly humbled me, but the dessiduous [sic] forrests [sic] of the East call & I feel the tug San Francisco, Paul Berger, all well the latter will come back this fall. Andrea wants to climb Rainer. Thank god we're out of money I wouldn't try to stop her as she shows definite mountain goat tendencies. Your farm must be beautiful in the fall H I N T !!! xx Alan Andrea
