Dear Ellen, Kansas ain't what it used to be. Dorothy split to N.Y.C. to be a [?] queen. Todo tried to cross the interstate and got flattened by a Mack truck. Hope to see you in Albuquerque; I'm still undecided. Regards, Arthur Taussig

Yeah, be good to see you—when & where are College Art & SPE? By the way, could you send the letter abt the panel for my file, & what abt the credit? Could you find out? Truly missing the fall excursion. Love, Dave
Jim Stone to Ellen Manchester
[return address redacted] Ellen, Did I write you from Alaska? If I didn't I'm not there anymore anyway but back at the old same place ready to begin at the old same things—B.C., Dana Hall, Camb. Center, and Suffolk U. Quite a lineup. Alaska was wonderful—have many stories (and of course pictures) for when you wander by. Soon I hope. Write anyway. Love, Stone

Bonnie Lambert to Ellen Manchester
Saturday Dear Ellen—I wish you were here—it is just before sundown & everything is hazy & lavender & streaks of yellow. The mountains are like big lolling animals. Have decided NOT to go to the regional SPE meeting: each photo etching I make costs about $13. (if I'm lucky which I haven't been yet.) So, want to save those bucks for art & NYC Xmas. Today I asked 2 complete strangers if I could take photos! Do you believe it?! Miss you. xo BGL
Marshall Mayer and Bonnie Lambert to Ellen Manchester
[from Marshall] Dear Ellen, I think we visited every Natl Monument in the West but this one. The vacation is almost over—we're going to Des Moines with Mark J. [Johnstone] this weekend. But first a trip to Boulder to work on business. When we get back there will be a slide show—we'll let you know when. Marshall [from Bonnie] Dear EM—I got a bad sore throat in Monument Valley, so we drove to Colo. Springs & I got to stay in bed (a real one, not the ground) ALL DAY. I feel good today. Will get in touch by phone next week. Can't wait to see our slides! xo BGL

9.19.76 Dear Ellen, We are spending too many days in a too small trailer in Seattle. Will leave for S. F. tomorrow. Did spend 2 days in the Olympic Penisula [sic]: went to the Pacific, & went into 2 near-rain forests. Scary. Saw a little snake, which was, of course, all I needed. love, Bonnie

Nov. 18, 1976 Dear Ellen—thanks again for the "party." I'm really glad I made it—with much help—up there. Do you think that woman still wants to buy a print? I hope so, cause Marshall bought 2 of David's [Johnson] from his thesis show. Guess he did some very nice things. It is 70º today—I can't believe it! Video 4:00 Wed 11.24 FA. 116, if you can make it. love to you, BGL

Ellen—Hope all's well by you now. Stopped in Breckenridge on the way past to return Kenda's [North] squeegee & found out you will have a workshop next week. That is good. I think things will be up from here on in. Talked to Alex [Sweetman?] and Kenda a lot about your gallery & w/all our support & help I believe we can make it happen. The trip out was OK—hot tho. We will leave for Mexico City next week sometime fare is pretty cheap. I'm excited about this. Then I will go to Harold's [Jones?] on the return trip. Went to the beach yesterday but couldn't relax—too much to do—PRINT JUDITH'S [Golden] CLOTHES and there was Sun Mon. None yet today, but I've errands to do now.
Dave Freund to Ellen Manchester
Dear Ellen—Well, my favorite Maine breakfast place was closed—so now at the first place north of the fog—I do like driving in fog. Yesterday I gave up pokin about in six hundred places that didn't have much & headed up to my favorite Camden bookstore, one of the best anywhere. You'd love it—a temtation [sic] at every turn—got some swell albums and one handmade book abt WWII from a photographer in Holland—plus a bunch of nice photo cards—I'm getting such a good bunch of them. Yesterday was buy-day—couple of nice dog's [?]—and one woman wanted to go home and sold me two satin patchwork quilts, a silk scarf (white), 6 Victorian beaded napkin rings—well, they were real nice, as were the 4 pr of antique women's stockings—for $20 who could refuse? Now the eggs here are a little too crispy, but there's a nice view of the road. Love, Dave
Dave Freund to Ellen Manchester
Dear Ellen—Well, here're a couple of snaps for you—thought you mebbe had dematerialized—nice to here [sic] your voice—here now at Dorothy's Cafe for breakfast, one day into a Maine week—1st slow day got all the way to the Berkshires—Adams, a real Industrial Rev place, a low, beautiful mill across the street from breakfast—a place that serves coffee in ironstone mugs on red checked oilcloth table—cloths can't be all bad, eh? Fled NYC for the heat—didn't work—figures to be I reckon abt 120º today, a real NEngland steamer. Not much point asking what, how, who, why you're doing, since I'll find out soon enuf. Did your card #2 indicate you were coming to NYC the end of June? Think I'll be there, so call. If I can get Dorothy to sell me the picture of the locomotive behind me I'll show it to you. The eggs were fried too fast—crisp whites, but a decent yolk. Love, Dave
Alan and Andrea Klotz to Ellen Manchester
Hello, I am sorry to say that barring sudden change a visit to Aspen will not be possible (flat broke) But we are expecting you to stay with us while you find a place to live. It was a lovely summer and the West has properly humbled me, but the dessiduous [sic] forrests [sic] of the East call & I feel the tug San Francisco, Paul Berger, all well the latter will come back this fall. Andrea wants to climb Rainer. Thank god we're out of money I wouldn't try to stop her as she shows definite mountain goat tendencies. Your farm must be beautiful in the fall H I N T !!! xx Alan Andrea
