Kiddies: Not this time... Lotsa stuff popping (although nothing big to notate, only that I no longer have the use of Beth's truck, nor Beth,—catch my drift?). I hope I can make it down in May sometime. My life runs at a casual pace approximating land speed records. M

Sorry we didn't get to look at you're book stuff—we actually came looking for you after the printer but nowhere to be located. I'll most likely be down for the 4th with some work—I'll probably call to verify anything. I moved—[address redacted and phone]. Just finished applying to Ferguson Grant to pay for this book—I sure home Scott [McLeod] can do a better job—200 line screen AT LEAST. We all want it nice. Molly's getting excited to come. Marshall

Tue. Dear Ellen—I certainly hope this gets to you before you leave. We're camped out here and it's so much better than THO [Timothy H. O'Sullivan] could have pictured it in his day. It's also a lot better than this pc. The water glows a turquoise & the rocks are stunning cream in the day/sunlight. This sunset was thinly overcast & it's almost dark. The water is still glowing turquoise & the mountains opposite are purple & mauve, the sky is lilac & purple & the sage & grasses are green & gold. Damn I'm impressed. We must come here sometime together. Found THO's picture & have not been able to get to it/ Road is closed. Found a Linda Connor at Thunder Mtn. I'll show you which one. The trip has been plagued w/ bad events but we go on. Water pump went out & we went to Provo & yesterday Jim [Houghton] broke a front tooth in half chopping wood. See you this weekend xx B.

Monday evening 9/16/74 Dear Ellen, I started work today, and I LOOOVE it. I feel like a spoiled kid. Thanks for your great letter—to which I will respond more fully soon. Dennis [Longwell] says hi. Diana [Edkins] is in Texas for the opening of her Jackson show. Glad to hear your setup is working out. The foilage weekend sounds good and I shall check it out w/ Dave [Freund] and Diana. I am in love w/ New England again. My apt. is unbelievably huge and beautiful—and lots of room for visitresses I just painted one wall in my LR flesh color (above) in remembrance of Bonnie's [Lambert] beautiful body and her beautiful spirit both of which I pine for each day. The 3 of us shall reunite ever stronger. Love, Pete

November 1, 1977 Dear Andrea & Tom, It looks like I may have gotten a real job: photographer for a curriculum development co. But, most of their contracts are with the gov't., so I have to get a security clearance. Will take 3-4 mos. In the meantime I have found a crap job selling cameras (will take it if I don't get hired at a Xerox place this week.) At the good job I would do things like photograph a guy taking apart a rifle or defusing a land mine! Could be interesting. Lots of travel: that's the good & bad part. Any job for you, Andrea? How's Wyoming? love, Bonnie

Dear Dave—this is a little "excitement" to get you to come to our fair flour city for SPE—really hope you can make it. Our living situation is VERY cozy as Chris [?] has moved in. I sleep in the kitchen! BUT Please stay with us—Chris will be at her parents, [Robert] Heinecken might stay here, Gary M [Metz] can't make it. Should be lots of laughs—bring LOTS of work! Thanks again for the bed & board. Love Ellen & BGL

Sat—Had a GREAT day in L.A. I'm SO HIGH! They REALLY interviewed me. 1 1/2 hrs of questions—realize biggest problem is lack of experience. They're worried about that with 1/2 my duties working with grads! Felt good about myself—was honest so they'll either like me or I don't belong there. Robt. [Robert Heinecken] was fantastic. Said I'm his 1st choice still. They'll interview Eileen [Cowin] Mon—PRAY!!! I'll let you know as soon as I know. Bad hair—I gonna get to work! Love Jude

Dear Ellen—Very good to get your card(s) & hear the show looks good—really wish I could see it. (By implication, Gary's [Metz?] prints showed up, right?) The clothes, my god, thanks for not sending them for $22! Can't you just put them in a box & mail 'em last class, insured? Shouldn't be more than a few $—& when it comes I'll mail you a check for the postage. I'll surely be out sometime this summer, somehow. How long you gonna be there? Could you send me a summer catalog? School's out next week, & free play for the summer‚ hardly know where to strike first. But I'll manage. See yo. Love, Dave [front of card] Hi, Bonnie [Lambert] !!!

Saturday, Dear Mark—Thanks so much for the letter & photo. It sounds like you're doing well. Hope that the problem that you caught in Texas is now over also. I'm getting anxious to get out of school—it doesn't seem to have much relation to doing art. Both of us are totally working now. I'm broke and anxious to get some kind of an income other than my meager teaching salary. I'm glad that you're looking towards California. It's a nice place to be although photographers photo scene seems slate [stale?]. Artists using photo however are doing some very interesting things. Keep in touch & thanks for writing. Susan PS—Please don't give our address or phone # out to any students (I don't know if we every asked you this)

8 April 77 NYC [In case you didn't guess, this pic is about love] Dear Bonnie—You made it into Light Gallery sooner than you thought; as a subject in a Dave Freund picture (you're seen mostly from behind—but unmistakably you—and a girl cut in half on a porch on the right). The show is not bad—that VERY delicate sensibility; my only objection is that technically they're a little sloppy: fuzzy & grainy which is bad for all the delicate stuff. But still pretty good. Dave seems happy & we had a nice talk at the openning [sic], and that Harold [Jones] produced some sort of elegant demonstration. Does the show look good? Nice frames? The [Robert] Rauschenberg show here is marvelous—what's terrific is that he was willing to try anything. Jonnie & Susan, back from England, send love. P.

8/12 Hi Mark & Robbi, I'm in Montana, on the Gallatin River, on my way to Yellowstone. Finished a bike tour (no, not the Harley to Sturgis, my pedal-type bike) last week—from Helena to Billings via Yellowstone. Much fun. Back to Yellowstone to see if I can make pictures of campers & such. We'll see. Enjoyed seeing Haynes' photos today in Helena. I'm on to Idaho next. Then San Fran, but back to Denver after that—think I'll try to get to LA in winter. Hey—Jennifer and I are getting married (gulp!) December 29. Come on out & do some skiing & join us! Hee Hee, what fun! Ken
