October 8 Well ladies, Rochester hasn't felt to bad, back home with my plants, books and darkroom—the place seems so huge and comfy. Trees playing rainbow exercises—raining even more than usual so I'm content to stay inside and print. If I didn't get restless I might get somewhere! Living with Helena Brunner (wonderful), Jim Hunter has found temporary residence in the living room (no comment at this point) Alex [Sweetman] is happy in Chicago, really seems to love the job & the people—will you come see us?? I really miss you here, haven't many people around to feel good with (I divorced the [Visual Studies] Workshop—our relationship was never too hot). love & a hug Kenda

Well, so far it's been insane. The tour group is mainly over 65, all retired, VERY chatty, and barely tolerant of us. it's been raining most of the time, and my ass is nearly paralyzed from sitting in trains and busses. it IS a frontier, the landscape is incredible and some of the towns haven't changed since the gold rush! but we hardly stop to see anything—only for 'picture stops'—and how can i compete with 20 instamatics and 6 dedicated amateurs? I wanna come home... kenda

Monday Having a great 10 day break in Colo. with Wilson... Mostly in Summit County with a short visit to the ranch. Read your LA report in Afterimage—found it depressing. I mean, what a bummer?!! How come K. [Cathy] Gauss is getting SO much flack? Talk to ya Love K.

7/22 It's been fantastic to be back in Chicago—despite the heat & humidity it's a great city. Taking care of Papa has been much easier than the time thinking about it all... Nonetheless a true education about reality of being old. Fortunately Debo [Deborah] & I are here together. I've been printing—making some progress. Will fly to Denver Aug. 4th—to B. [Barbara] Houghton's. Hope to see you—if not, later! Thanks for a great time at C.C. [Colorado College] Love K.

July 20 Babs—The city is wonderful to be around after so long... I've been spending long hours at the studio but with no air conditioning it's a steam bath. Sweat may change the color balance of the new prints! We found a place for Papa, high price but comfy. Will be coming in Aug. 4th—Miss you K
