Barbara, the weather here is the pits. UPS picked up damaged print, will you get some bucks. I'm on the verge of winning the COLO/Roc darkroom construction contest [between Gary Metz and Roger Mertin], at least I think so—Love Roger

Dear Dave—this is a little "excitement" to get you to come to our fair flour city for SPE—really hope you can make it. Our living situation is VERY cozy as Chris [?] has moved in. I sleep in the kitchen! BUT Please stay with us—Chris will be at her parents, [Robert] Heinecken might stay here, Gary M [Metz] can't make it. Should be lots of laughs—bring LOTS of work! Thanks again for the bed & board. Love Ellen & BGL

Dear Gary, Finally back in S.D. ready to get back to school. Wanted to thank you for accommodating us. Every once in a while one has to check in with one's sources and this vacation was good for that. I hope both Bonnie [Lambert] & I can see you again before you go to N.Y. Until then, Marshall

Friday Dear Bonnie, Guess where we are!—Spent last night in RMNP after another good day of driving but no good food. Just found Gary [Metz] and will spend the night there. Have to do some minor work on the car. High altitude blues. Should be in DM tomorrow night. Not getting too much research done cause we're pretty tired. Planning on a cheeseburger at Tom's and breakfast at Dotties Diner. I'll call soon. Marshall x0x0x0 P.S. Gary is as interesting as ever.

Mark, Sorry I couldn't stop in on my way down from Montana but I arrived in the Springs at 2:30 am on the 21st. I am very much interested in submitting in your publication. Please send full details. I am studying w/ B. [Beaumont] Newhall and David Vestal here so it looks good. Should give my portfolio a boost. I'll be up soon—Marshall

I think I'm @ SC another yr—but it's hard to tell. What the hell, I might be out this semester. The place is in turmoil. You + señorita bonita coming up? Made reservations @ 4 Oaks for Sat Feb 3 @ 9 o'clock. Let's meet in Inglewood, afternoon? M

Gary, The old prospector and his burro had left the mine for town in the middle of the day with an empty canteen. Both being thirsty, the burro finally said, "I think we'd better go back." The old prospector snorted, "You're crazy!" The burro turned to go but the old prospector stopped the burro short tugging on the reign. There they stood stubborn; neither right nor wrong. Marshall

Dear Mark, Hasn't changed much here in 36 years—this sight on every street corner. Doin' the hustle here & meeting alot [sic] of interesting people. Too many restaurants to get any work done though. We'll drop you a card as to our plans to visit in C. Springs. Marshall

[text from Bonnie] Wish you were here to enjoy the sun. B. [text from Ellen] Dear Dave—We forgot our coats & ties, so they wouldn't let us in here! Oh well, we are still welcome at Carl's counter. Lots of new buildings, people, etc.—but of course lots of groovy food, bars and shops. Saw Ralph [Wolff] last night. He seems really well. Ivan's [?] still sitting on his front step. HAPPY EXHIBITION—we'll be thinking of you. Ellen, Gary + Bonnie
